How do I monitor different inputs?

Input monitoring using Console, Mackie Big Knob, or your laptop.

Introduction to Console

All Apollo inputs are automatically monitored inside the Console software on the control room computer. This Console “Mix” is output to the Mackie Big Knob (MBK) on the same channel as other desktop and DAW software; creating a realtime mix of all sound sources.

So long as the routing is correct and the corresponding Console channel is not muted, any connected microphone will automatically be monitored through all headphones and the control room speakers.

No software monitoring is required for inputs connected to the Apollo. Ensure that software monitoring is disabled in your DAW (or else you will hear a latent copy of your inputs). If available, “Low Latency Monitoring” should also be enabled in the DAW.

Monitoring other sources

Audio from externally connected devices is automatically routed without the use of patch cables to the control room speakers, and to the vocal booth headphones so long as the “Studio Monitor” toggle button is lit and ON.

Monitoring Aux Cable Sources

Phones and other devices can be used for monitoring or playback by connecting the device with an ⅛” aux cable to the front of the MKB.

TIP: Cables and adapters are for sale in the lobby vending machine.

Monitoring Laptops

Laptops can be used for monitoring/playback by connecting the device with a USB cable to the Mackie Big Knob (MBK). Laptop playback can be toggled on or off with the “USB” button on the MBK labeled “LAPTOP”.

If using a Mac laptop, no drivers are needed. Just make sure to select the MBK as the audio output device in your DAW or OS. If using a PC, download and install the MBK driver, and select the MBK as the audio device in your DAW or OS.
